### Improved Design of Externally Pressurized Gas Journal Bearing in Cryogenic Helium Turbo-expander

Abstract: In order to solve the instability of cryogenic helium turbo-expander in experimental advanced superconducting Tokamak (EAST) helium refrigerator, a new computation program is developed on the basis of Reynolds equation, which can obtain the four performance parameters of externally pressurized gas bearing one off, namely carrying capacity, stiffness coefficient, gas consumption and friction power consumption. The curves of load and gas consumption which varies with orifice diameter and radius clearance are drawn up. An improved design of the externally pressurized gas bearing for helium turbo-expander is put forward in current condition. The experimental results indicate that the new design can improve the stability of helium turbo-expander effectively, which is a prerequisite of important theory stage for the further improvement of cryogenic helium turbo-expander in EAST.
