Abstract: Mechanical properties of several kinds of molding sands, which are often used in production of large scale steel castings, have been experimentally researched for temperature range 20℃ to 1300℃. Uniaxial compression stress-strain curves are obtained by a SWX-II molding sand testing device, from which deformation modulus, strength of the molding sands at different temperature or viscosity of the molding sands when they soften are calculated. By means of measuring destroy angles of sand specimens, the angles of internal friction of the molding sands are obtained, and then cohesive strength of the molding sanding is calculated. According to the experimental results, a stress-strain model of the molding sands is presented.
