Innovative Design of Regular Unit-cell and Energy-absorbing Features under Impact of Polyhedron Sandwich Structure

Abstract: In the process of designing polyhedron sandwich structure, the existing studies seldomly consider the evolvement of unit-cell of shape and size, thus neglecting the influence of the shape and size parameters of the unit-cell on the impact of t energy-absorbing features of the structure. Based on the thought of origami geometry, an evolutive mechanism is proposed to transform the structure of orthopyramid and regular prismoid unit-cell, and separation parameter and truncation parameter are introduced to discuss the unit-cell of shape and size separately or simultaneously, consequently gaining the unit-cell which can adapt to different circumstances. The definition unit-cell in array results in the upper and lower nested regular polyhedron sandwich structure. Establishing the impulsive model of regular polyhedron sandwich structure, using finite element simulation analysing the influences of transform parameters both in impulsive angle and structural dimensions to regular polyhedron sandwich structure of energy-absorbing features, the influence graph of energy-absorbing features of regular polyhedral sandwich structure in different transformation parameters circumstances are obtained, providing a reference for design of regular polyhedron sandwich structure.
