Abstract: New models for the optimization of metal cutting variables, taking cutting tool reliability into consideration, were proposed. The machining variables optimized with these models were better than those obtained from the traditional ones. Results show that the optimum machining variables decrease with the increase of tool reliability level. For a given machining process, a set of optimum machining variable values and an optimum tool reliability level exist. With the increase of tool inherent reliability, machining cost can be reduced. The higher the tool reliability level, the better the results.
