Abstract: To overcome the great difficulties in dressing and the small space for chips, the natural problems of the traditional metal bonded superhard abrasive tool, pores selfgeneration superabrasive tool (PSSAT) is proposed. The fillers added in the metal binder of the PSSAT can be ‘dissolved’ by certain solution in the machining process, and porous structure, which is benefit to the self-sharpening and the increasing of chip space, can be generated on the tool surface layer. The dissolution of three soluble fillers Zn, CaO, SiO2 are analyzed, and the influence of the fillers on the strength of PSSAT is also investigated. PSSAT pellets with dimension 20 mm × 5 mm are used in experiments to investigate the pore-generating and self-sharpening process. Results show that the filler Zn is the best one for pores self-generation without obvious decline of the tool strength. As a result, the self-sharpening of the abrasive tool and material removal rate are improved with decrease of the jam on tool surface.
