Abstract: Three-dimensional topography of surface abrasion under metal reciprocating motion has important influence to lubricant effect in point contact. The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate the feasibility of measuring 3D topography of surface abrasion. A new method to produce sinusoidal light system and real-time image acquisition and processing system are introduced into Fourier transform profilometry (FTP), one fringe image is used to obtained 3D topography of surface abrasion. A surface abrasion under ten thousand times is used to demonstrate the validity of the method and the experiment results are compared with those obtained from surface profile. Contact with a high-speed CCD camera, the method can retrieve instantaneous contour from a continuous deformation object, and provide a new examination proof for further development of lubricant effect.
