Abstract: The influence of different wear time upon the formation of self-repair coating on the worn surfaces of 45 steel pairs and mechanism thereof are investigated by using MMU-5G end-face friction and wear tester. By using scanning electron microscope(SEM) and Energy dispersive X-ray(EDX), The surface of rubbing pairs and appearance of the self-repair coatings and their chemical composition are tested. The experimental results indicate that the wear time has a great influence on the formation of self-repair coating on the worn surface. When the time of friction and wear is 24 h, the sample weightlessness is zero, the self-repair coatings of the sample’s worn surface are formed, which makes the surface smooth and the metal wear reduced effectively.
