Abstract: A simplified finite element model for cracked rotor is presented, which is based on local flexibility theorem and transfer matrix analysis. By numerical simulation, the effects of the slenderness ratio, the crack depth and location on the changes in eigenfrequencies and mode shapes for a static (non-rotating) rotor with an open crack are investigated. A new non-destructive evaluation algorithm that uses the first two normalized eigenfrequencies and two translations of the first mode shape to predict the crack parameters is proposed, and an illustrative example demonstrates the validity and feasibility of the proposed algorithm.
