Research on Racetrack Coil EMAT FE Model and Sound Field Characteristics

Abstract: The racetrack coil is an important coil type of EMAT. This kind of EMAT has has a wide range of applications in ultrasonic thickness measurement and flaw detection. And it is also the basic element of EMAT linear array transducer. The radiated sound field is the most significant characteristic of the ultrasonic transducer. To find out the influence of the shape and the size of the racetrack coil on the EMAT radiated sound field is the basis for the transducer design and detection process development. The electro-magnetic-acoustic multi-field coupling model of the racetrack coil EMAT is established, and calculating the radiated sound field by finite element model. Analyzing.the sound field characteristics of the racetrack coil EMAT and the influence of the EMAT radiated sound field by coil width.Then setting up the EMAT radiation sound field experimental measurement system,and measuring the radiated sound field of the racetrack coil EMAT. This research reveals that the EMAT radiated sound field of the racetrack coil exhibits a butterfly distribution in the far field, and as the coil width increases, the amplitude of the radiated sound field increases and the width becomes narrower.
