Study of Thrust Force Distribution in a Drilling Cycle during Drilling of CFRP Laminates

摘要: 碳纤维增强复合材料(Carbon fiber-reinforced polymers,CFRPs)制孔轴向力与多种损伤形式密切相关,描述整个制孔过程中以及钻头在任意旋转周期内轴向力的分布规律,对于揭示制孔损伤的产生与演化过程具有重要意义。介绍切削比功率的概念,用于描述单位时间内去除单位体积材料的效率;分别对主切削刃和横刃进行微元划分,利用钻削比功率对产生的局部微元力进行经验表示,计算各切削刃上任意位置切削微元的工作角度,构建局部微元力与整体钻削力的转换矩阵,进而建立切削比功率与轴向力的关系。最后,通过试验测量单向CFRP板制孔轴向力与扭矩,提取数据信息对切削比功率进行标定,实现了对钻头处于任意状态时轴向力的描述。利用所建立的轴向力模型研究了:单向铺层CFRP板制孔轴向力分布规律、孔周损伤产生的位置与轴向力分布的关系以及两向和多向铺层的制孔轴向力叠加效应。

Abstract: When drilling of carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRPs), it is considered that the associated damages are closely related to thrust force. Modeling the variation and distribution of thrust force during drilling cycles has, hence, been extremely important to reveal the generation and propagation of damages. The definition of specific cutting power is introduced first to describe the materials remove rate per unit time. Then, the cutting edges of a drill are divided into infinite cutting elements. The local cutting force on the elements of chisel edge and major cutting edge are modeled empirically using the specific cutting power. After calculating the cutting edge angles of each cutting element, the relation between the specific cutting power and thrust force is built by applying transforming matrixes to local and global coordinate system. Lastly, the specific cutting power is calibrated using the information which is extracted from the thrust force measured when drilling of unidirectional CFRP. By using the thrust force model, 1) the unidirectional CFRP drilling thrust force distribution, 2) the association of drilling damages and thrust force distribution and 3) the superposition of the thrust force generated in drilling of multi-directional CFRP were investigated.
