Abstract: Using agent technology to realize intelligence of manufacturing system has become a new trend. The state-of-the-art of agent technology is described. A general structure and characteristics of agent in manufacturing system is presented, and two kinds of agents are defined, which are logical agent and physical agent. Based on the future trend and requirement of networking intelligent manufacturing, the application of agent in manufacturing system is analyzed. The Studies and develop-ing trends of the agent in manufacturing system is also dis-cussed.
