摘要： 指出了现代机械工程科学前沿的显著特征：一方面，它与信息技术、材料科学、生命科学和管理科学相交叉；另一方面，它在创造性地解决机械工程关键科学问题的过程中得到发展。提出了国家自然科学基金委员会机械工程学科“十五”优先资助领域的遴选原则和学科“十五”优先领域的构想。

Abstract: The remarkable features of the frontiers of advanced mechanical engineering science are presented. On one hand, mechanical engineering science is intersected with information technology, materials science, management science and life science; on the other hand, it is progressing and developing through solving creatively key scientific problems in mechanical engineering. The principles of selecting priority fields of mechanical engineering in National Natural Science Foundation of China in the coming five years are proposed.
