Abstract: Based on the casting defects classification system of CIATF, a casting defects analysis expert system is developed, in which a combined technology of Expert system and database is used. With the guide of the casting defects sketch maps and photos, the system can be used to identify 112 kinds of casting defects classified by seven categories, to diagnose their causes, and to give the remedies respectively. With its knowledge acquisition and system maintenance modules, the knowledge base of the system can be maintained and expanded to improve the performance of the system constantly to fit the actual situation of foundry industries.
