Abstract: The transmission efficiency of the tripod universal joint with spherical rollers is studied by analyzing the friction losses due to sliding between rollers and tripod, and sliding between rollers and guide slots. The instantaneous efficiency of the joint for any input angle is first analysed. Then through integration the average efficiency of transmission for the tripod universal joint is finally obtained.
