Abstract: In the previous article “Research on the stress distribution in keys” published in “Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering” Vol.3 No.1, the author proposed a new theory of the stress distribution of tapered keys. In this paper, as a continuation of the proposed theory, the author derived the formula for designing tapered keys by analyzing the equilibrium condition of the moments applied on the key, shaft, and hub according to the previous proposed theory.
