HEAT TRANSFER THEORY OF FILM CONDENSATION OF SATURATED VAPORS AT REST

Abstract: Analytical methods analogous to those used in the boundary layer theory were employed to solve the problem of saturated vapors at rest. Analysis based upon the laws of similarity revealed that there are four dimensionless groups involved in the process of film condensation: a Nusself number Nu or alternatively a Reynolds number Re, a Gallileo number Ga, a Prand number Pr and an enthahy ratio K. in the range of laminar flow of the condensate film with vapor at rest it was demonstrated that the velocity distribution across the film is parabolie while the temperature distribution is linear. It was also demonstrated that the set of fundamental differential equations may be transformed into a set of integral relations leads to Krujilin’s formula. For Pr>1 and K>5, as in the case of condensation of steam under ordinary conditions, this formula gives the same result as Nusselt’s formula. For Pr<1 or K<5, as in the case of condensation of metals, however, the corrections to the Nusselts’s formula are significant. Values of the corrections for different Pr and K numbers are given in a graph.
