Abstract: Magnetic fluid is a nanometer liquid magnetic material with superparamagnetism, which has been paid more and more attention and applied in many industrial fields. A solenoid type self-inductance sensor is designed with the magnetic fluid as a magnetic core. The working principle of the sensor is analyzed, and the mathematical model of the solenoid self-inductance sensor with magnetic fluid is established by derivation and calculation. The structure of the sensor is designed and the parameters of the magnetic fluid are measured. Linear working area of magnetic fluid in magnetic curve is selected and the magnetization value of the magnetic fluid is fit. The parameters of input power supply are selected by test. The experiments are carried out by orthogonal experiment method, and the results show that the output voltage of designed sensor is proportional to the input data. The experimental data and theoretical values are in good agreement and the linearity of the sensor is very good. Coils with four different diameters are applied in experiments and the results present that the coil diameter has little influence on the output input results and the sensitivity of sensor. Therefore, within the allowable error range, the coil diameter can be minimized to reduce the volume and cost of the sensor. By theoretical and experimental research, a new solenoid self-inductance sensor with magnetic fluid is developed, which has excellent performance, small volume, low cost and wide application prospect.
