Abstract:A normalized biological knowledge representation model, Fbio-Bbio-Sbio knowledge cell model, and a systematic solutions/problem driven innovative analogy process model, transformation-clustering-mapping-synthesis model, are proposed to address the issues that the biologically inspired design analogies cannot be easily acquired and transferred into engineering design. Uncoupled or decoupled Fbio-Bbio-Sbio knowledge cells are obtained through function decomposition of existing cases according to the Suh's Axiomatic Design principle in order to establish database. In solutions/problem driven analogy process, transformation from biological analogies/design requirement to function model is coming first, followed by knowledge cells clustering to present a set of related knowledge cells and mapping biological knowledge cells to engineering, and finally, the engineering knowledge cells are used to conduct design synthesis through back tracking function decomposition process. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed methodology are verified in the design of visual prosthesis.
