Abstract: The numerical method for wheel wear prediction is introduced, and the analysis on the interaction of the metro wheel with abnormal wear and the new rail is carried out based on the dynamic contact condition of the wheel and rail. The wear occurred on the abnormal wear wheel is predicted with the numerical method. Also the reason for the abnormal wear is briefly discussed. The results show that the wheel tread generates the convexity between the nominal rolling circle and the tread tail after serious wear, and the convexity quite often contacts with the rail, and the wear rate is very high in the region of the convexity. Hence,The convexity formation is not related to the wheel-rail interaction. The double-groove wear on the wheel tread should be attributed to the unstable friction of the brake-shoe and the wheel tread, and the swing of the brake-shoe with respect to the wheel during the friction occurring, and the greatly uneven loading between the shoe and the wheel tread. The rate of the double-groove wear is more serious than that of the wheel flange wear. The wheel flange wear is caused by the flange action of the wheel and rail, whereas the double-groove wear on tread may be mainly caused by the break shoe.
