INVESTIGATION ON VIRTUAL CRACK EXTENSION METHOD FOR J-INTEGRAL PARAMETER CALCULATIONS IN HETEROGENEOUS WELDED JOINT

Abstract: The virtual crack extension (VCE) method proposed by Parks and Delorenzi was extended and applied to the heterogeneous welded joints, and the three-dimensional (3D) elastic-plastic finite element program for J-integral calculations by VCE method is established based on plane analyses, the applicability of this method in welded joints is thoroughly examined. Besides, the 3D distribution of J-integral along the crack front in welded joints is discussed.
