Abstract: Based on S1/S2 streamsurface theory, a quasi-3D design method for Francis runner is presented. The quasi-3D design model consists of an inverse calculation on S2 streamsurface and flow analysis on a number of S1 . The distribution of the swirl velocity and the blade thickness on the geometry of the runner is prescribed. The stacking position of the blade has a great influence on the blade shape and the hydraulic performance of the runner. Excellent agreements are obtained between the specified and the computed vθr distribution.
