Abstract: Transmission of stress wave through the mechanical impact system is studied with the aim to provide an approach to synthesize all parts with the same wave transmissivity as a given part. The given part is divided into a finite number N of segments with constant cross-sectional area and equal transit time, as a consequence the matrix equations are established to represent the transmission of stress waves. Characteristic matrix and transmission equivalent are defined and discussed. By means of an inversion approach, all parts which are transmission equivalent to the given part can be obtained through substitutions. It is mentioned that there are at most two to the power N different. Numerical examples are given for cases with N =2, 3.
