Abstract: The surface emissivities of medium carbon steel and die/mold steel, common carbide and coated carbide are calibrated with an infrared imager within the temperature range of 300~900 ℃. The heat radiation influence of the heating stove environment on the specimens is considered, and the effects of temperature, surface structure and geometry of the specimens on their surface emissivity are analyzed. The investigation results indicate: with the increase of temperature, the emissivities of these steels increase, but the die/mold steel keeps a small emissivity within a relatively wide temperature range; the sample surface evenness influences the surface emissivity; the coated tool keeps a stable and quite small surface emissivity.
