EFFECT OF CBN WHEEL SELF-DRESSING IN FACE GRINDING OF GROOVE BOTTOM WITH METAL BOND CUP CBN QUILL

Abstract: The grinding effects of metal bond cup CBN quill in face grinding of bottom of grooves are discussed. In face grinding with metal bond cup CBN quill, the grinding force don’t increase as increasing of cumulative grinding pass and surface roughness R, is lower than 4μm, the grinding process is steadily in normal grinding because there is CBN wheel self – dressing effect in it. That is , the bond material is removed continuely, crack and damange and taken off of wore CBN grains are happened, new CBN grain edges are produced continuely and the CBN wheel is keepen sharply in grinding process. It is the mechanism of CBN wheel self – dressing, that bond material is lashed, washed away and carved by mixed fluid (grinding chip and coolant).
