Abstract: Composite servo hydraulic cylinder is an innovative solution of hydraulic cylinder weight reduction. Friction characteristics is one of the core factors, which affects the control accuracy and dynamic performance of electro-hydraulic servo system. Traditional hydraulic cylinder friction test adopts imprecise starting pressure measurement method. A wide-speed range and high efficiency precision friction testing method is proposed for a new composite hydraulic cylinder. In this friction test method, the speed of the cylinder under test is driven and controlled by a hydraulic test rig. A friction-velocity feature points marking method and a step size adaption control method are proposed to improve the accuracy of friction characteristic test. The friction-speed relationship curve of the hydraulic cylinder in a wide speed range is obtained. The friction characteristic parameters of the hydraulic cylinder under test are identified by fitting the friction-velocity curve to the Stribeck equation. This friction test method has been applied to a test bench, and the friction characteristics of a carbon fiber hydraulic cylinder has been tested to verify the effectiveness of the test method.
