Abstract: Hashin criteria in strain form is widely used in progressive failure computation of composite materials, while it is originally presented in stress form. The nonlinear constitutive equations and the corresponding tangent stiffness matrices under these two forms are derived, the inequality between the two forms is analyzed. Linde damage evolution law is combined with Hashin criteria strain form and stress form respectively to perform progressive failure analyses of a notched composite laminate, the results show that the strain form data is more consistent with the experiment data. Furthermore, Sleight damage evolution law is combined with Hashin criteria stress form to perform progressive failure analyses using different parameters in Sleight damage evolution law. The results show that 0.8 is a good choice. The theoretical derivation and numerical simulation results are helpful for choosing a proper combination of failure criteria form and damage evolution law in progressive failure computation of composite materials.
