Abstract: 4D printing is a kind of intelligent structure additive manufacturing technology that combines 3D printing technology and intelligent materials. By designing the spatial distribution of smart materials, 4D printing can produce controllable deformation structures with adjustable shapes, characteristics or functions. The shape, performance and function of the controllable deformation structure change in a specific way according to the design through external stimulation, so that it can meet the application requirements of different fields. The research progress of planar unfolding design method and 3D deformation design method of controllable deformation structure is reviewed, and the outstanding achievements and innovative technology supporting 4D printing of controllable deformation structure design are summarized. Combined with the concept of 4D printing and the research status of controllable deformation structure design technology supporting 4D printing, its application in mechanical products, biomedicine and other fields is prospected.
