Abstract: A new technology for electrical discharge grinding of non-conductive engineering ceramics with synchronous servo double electrodes method is developed. It integrates electrical discharge and mechanical grinding with a metal bonded conductive wheel and an assistant sheet as two electrodes. Selecting insulating Al2O3 ceramics and copper as workpiece material and assistant sheet electrode, experiments are carried out. Parameters such as pulse duration, pulse interval, peak voltage, peak current, wheel speed and copper sheet thickness are changed to explore their effect on the material removal rate and surface roughness. The experiment results show that the new process features high efficiency, low cost, high quality of machined surface and nopollution to the environment.
