Abstract: In order to apply enough power for underwater vehicle, a new type cam engine is designed. The igniting startup process of the engine is researched. By using the theories of thermodynamics, dynamics, aerodynamics, the grain burning process, the working air controlling process, the state of working air in cylinder and the engine moving process are described by differential coefficient equations. The simulating models of igniting startup process for cam engine are modeled and this process is simulated by Matlab programme which is composed of the four order two point Runge-Kutta arithmetic. The simulation results show that the startup performance of new engine is excellence and it can meet the underwater vehicle quick startup needs. Further more, the simulating results are consistent with the testing results show that the design proposal is practicable and the mathematic model is correct. The model established provides theoretical basis for analyzing problems in igniting startup process test and for deciding the fuel entering time, these models also provide reference for analyzing the startup process of underwater vehicle.
