Abstract: The classification and description of the steel strip surface quality defects are concluded and the defects related to the surface micro-topography are especially introduced. The key factors and fields that are relevant to the manufacturing and quality control of the steel strip microscopic surface such as the characterization of the surface micro-topography, the rolling transfer, the fabrication and the wear evolution of the roller’s surface micro-topography, the visual aesthetics of the strip surface, the coating stickiness and the stamping oil storage are analyzed and summarized. The studies concerning microscopic surface quality of steel strip are summarized to issue the critical problems during the theoretical and practical researches inland. Suggestions on developing theories and technologies of the quality control of the microscopic steel strip surface are proposed. The scientific significance and application prospective on putting efforts to start domestic steel strip microscopic surface quality studies are discussed.

Key words: microscopic surface quality, micro-topography, roll wear, rolling transfer, steel strip
