Abstract: Minimization of the maximum residual vibrations of flexible rotors is formulated as a nonlinear programming problem, in which the bound constraints of balance corrections, if exist, are included. On this basis, an algorithm which is available to calculate the balance corrections with constraints and referred to as the iterative re-weighted damped least squares (IRDLS) algorithm, is proposed and implemented. By the IRDLS algorithm, the balance corrections are determined by sequentially minimizing a quadratic function, which is dependent on the iteratively updated weighting and damping coefficients. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
