Formation Mechanism and Strength-toughness Mechanism of Heterogeneous Structure of Ti-6Al-4V Alloy by Pulse Current Assisted Corrugated-flat Rolling

Abstract: Aiming at the long-term inversion problem in the strength and plasticity of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy plate prepared by traditional processes,an electric field is integrated into corrugated-flat rolling to form a bimodal heterogeneous structure with equiaxed coarse grains and ultrafine grains,thereby improving the strength and plasticity matching of the plate. The differences in microstructure and mechanical properties between electro-assisted corrugated-flat rolling and electro-assisted flat-rolling plates at 720 ℃ and 820 ℃ under a 600 A pulse current are compared. The results show that in the first pass of electro-assisted corrugated rolling,due to non-uniform plastic deformation caused by corrugated roll rolling,the material's local microstructure control effect is produced from the peak to the waist and the trough of the plate under the influence of the pulse current. After subsequent multi-pass electro-assisted flat rolling,the bimodal heterogeneous structure is finally prepared in the plate. Compared with electro-assisted flat rolling,the recrystallization degree in the electro-assisted corrugated-flat rolling plate is significantly improved,and a texture-weakening phenomenon is observed. The strength is greatly improved by the strengthening mechanisms such as fine-grain strengthening,dislocation strengthening,and heterogeneous deformation-induced strengthening,produced by grain refinement and heterogeneous structure. At the same time,the plate retains high plasticity through a heterogeneous deformation-induced hardening mechanism,demonstrating an excellent balance of strength and plasticity. Among them,the heterogeneous structure effect of the plate after electro-assisted corrugated-flat rolling at 720 ℃ rolling temperature is the most obvious. The tensile strength of the plate is 1 330.6 MPa,the yield strength is 1 191.5 MPa,and the elongation after fracture is 11.9%.
