Abstract: Based on the principle of energy density equivalence, the load-displacement model of cylindrical specimen in the flat punch test is derived. The influences of material constitutive parameters and specimen geometry are considered in the model. Based on this model, a method is proposed to solve the equivalent stress and strain of the tested material. The method can predict the stress-strain curve of the specimen via the load-displacement experimental curve, without the presupposing the constitutive relation of the material. Elasto-plastic simulation analysis was conducted on the flat punch loading test, and the influence of different friction coefficients on the stress-strain relationship was presented. The results indicated that friction had a minor impact on the load-displacement curve of this type of static contact analysis. Subsequently, the load-displacement relationship model parameters of the circular plate specimen were determined by presetting five different hardening levels of the stress-strain relationship. The validity of the proposed method is verified by the finite element analysis of 32 presupposed constitutive relationships and the comparison between the tensile test and the flat punch test of 3 materials. The results show that the stress-strain curves obtained by the proposed method are in good agreement with the presupposed curves in the finite element analysis and the tensile test results.
