Abstract: Curve-face gear pair is a new type of spatial noncircular gear mechanism based on the noncircular gear, noncircular bevel gear and face gear. Aiming at the diversification of this gear pair transmission mode, which results in the lack of unified design theory and method, the transmission principles of curve-face gear are discussed by the motion rules of cylindrical end cam mechanism with reciprocating follower and cylindrical roller, and the general expressions of the transmission ratio, movement speed and rotational speed of the gear pair are established. The transmission ratio, addendum and dedendum curve, tooth distribution rule, minimum tooth number of cutting tool and maximum tooth width of curve-face gear are designed by setting the displacement rule of reciprocating follower. Based on the meshing theory, combined with the tooth surface equation and virtual simulation technology, a general design method for curve-face gear is proposed. The transmission patterns, kinematic characteristics and tooth width variation rules of four types of curve-face gear pairs are analyzed, and the related experiments are conducted to verify the correctness of the above design method. This design method can be applied to the arbitrary displacement curve and the arbitrary eccentric distance, and realize the general and parametric design of curve-face gear pair.
