Abstract: In order to increase the wear resistance and deformation resistance, the explosion prehardening is performed on the surface of the ZGMn13Cu2NV steel crossing with RDX explosive. The effects of explosion hardening on the microstructure and mechanical properties as well as lifetime of ZGMn13Cu2NV steel crossing are investigated. The results show that the optimum hardening layer can be acquired after two times explosion with 3 mm thickness RDX explosive, and the explosion start or end locations dislocate about 20 mm between two explosions. The explosion hardening mechanism of the surface of the ZGMn13Cu2NV steel crossing is deformation twin. The lifetime of the ZGMn13Cu2NV steel crossing is increased by more than 30% by the explosion hardening treatment.
