Abstract: Due to the operation difficulty and equipment complexity of precision form truing of arc-shaped diamond grinding wheel, a new NC mutual-wear form truing was proposed. In this form truing, wheel is driven along arc interpolation path to grind GC stone and then arc-shaped wheel profile is gradually formed. It is used for curve grinding of super-hard materials. On the base of establishing control mode of formation radius of arc-shaped diamond grinding wheel, effect of wheel position error relative to GC stone was analyzed on form error of trued arc-shaped profile of grinding wheel. In addition, evaluation indexes of truing accuracy and truing ratio were intruded, and then truing accuracy and truing ratio were investigated by L9(34) orthogonal test with reference to wheel rotate speed, moving speed and depth of cut. Analytical results of NC form truing show that the profile radius of arc-shaped grinding wheel may be regulated by changing arc interpolation radii in NC mutual-wear form truing, which can suit for curve form grinding of different curvature, and form error is not larger than 5 m/10 mm when position error between grinding wheel and GC stone is less than 0.1 mm. Experimental results of form truing show that wheel speed and wheel moving speed mainly influence truing accuracy and truing ratio respectively. Otherwise, truing accuracy and truing ratio may be simultaneously improved with increasing wheel speed, but truing ratio is enhanced and truing accuracy may be destroyed with increasing wheel moving speed. When optimal truing conditions are selected, form error of 25.1 m / 8 mm and truing ratio of 7.31×10–3 mm3/mm3 may be obtained respectively, enhancing truing accuracy by 2~3 times and truing ratio by about 7 times respectively.
