RESEARCH ON PROCESS OF MECHANICAL PRODUCT CONCEPTUAL DESIGN BASED ON IMPROVED FREEMAN-NEWELL MODEL

Abstract

Abstract: Freeman-Newell model is improved by introducing behavior information. A structure cognitive model based on function and behavior is constructed to describe an elementary problem-solving process. Concept space，the model for describing conceptual design process，is set up based on the proposed structure cognitive model. The relationship between design elements in concept space is represented by Boolean vectors/matrices to make it readily manipulated by computers，and the formalization of conceptual design process is presented. The conceptual design of an industry sewing machine is used as a case study to illustrate the proposed model and approach.
