THE INFLUENCE OF WELD TOE ANGLE AND LEG LENGTH ON THE STRESS CONCENTRATION FACTOR OF CROSS-SHAPED JOINT

Abstract: The paper presents the results of finite element analyses on cress-shaped joint. It is shown that weld toe angle and leg length have a significant influence on the Stress Concentration Factor (SCF) at the weld toe and at the weld root and that the SCF of load-carrying fillet weld is larger very much than that of non-load-carrying fillet weld in the geometric range related with this work. It is necessary on the basis of obtained results to replace load-carrying fillet welds with non-load-carrying fillet welds in practical construction.
