Abstract: This paper presents a new approximate machining method. The diamond moves very simply, but the grind wheel can be dressed into various curves. It is approximate to the required curve by means of optimization and with the help of a computer. On a conic grind wheel grinder, the grand whee can be dressed into hyperbolical curves with setting the diamond a certain displacement and performing only a straightline movement. It provides a new kind of grinding method of modified gears. For involute gear grinding, a dresser, whose diamond can true, a piece of degenerate circle on the grind wheel, moving along a circular arc only is developed now. The error between the curve and desired involute curve is limited to the degree of μm. Besides, also by using a piece of involute curve produced by a smaller base circle disk to replace a desired involute curve, in this paper two new formed gear grinding methods of involute gears are presented, and a new prospect of machining formed gear grinding high efficiently and more economically is shown as well.
