Abstract: Under high-speed and high-load operating conditions during vehicle operation, expansion sealing rings in vehicle transmissions are prone to accelerated failure. Due to the complexity of sealing contact states and dynamic damage evolution mechanisms, conventional physical models face challenges in elucidating the underlying failure mechanisms. A tribe-informatic approach to quantitatively analyse the factors influencing performance degradation in sealing rings is proposed. First, operational condition data and sealing performance data were collected and processed through life cycle testing of the sealing rings. Second, utilizing the complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise algorithm and time series analysis methods, the life cycle data of the sealing rings are decomposed and reconstructed into multi-dimensional operational features. A multi-scale quantitative analysis is conducted on high-frequency, low-frequency, and trend components using correlation statistics, corresponding to short-term fluctuations in sealing performance parameters, fluctuations caused by physical state changes, and long-term trends, respectively. This methodology aligns with the operational dynamics of expansion sealing rings under real-world conditions. Finally, the random forest regression algorithm was employed to validate the analytical results. The study demonstrated that the trend component of oil temperature exerts the most significant influence on seal leakage, with a feature contribution score of 0.43. The proposed multi-scale analysis framework, integrated with correlation analysis, offers self-adaptive and verifiable advantages, without constructing complex physical models. This approach effectively captures intrinsic relationships between sealing ring degradation and failure mechanisms, making it particularly suitable for analyzing the strongly coupled, non-stationary operational characteristics inherent to sealing systems.
