Abstract: Multi-damage monitoring of guided waves in plate structures is difficult because of low damage localisation accuracy and difficulty in distinguishing neighbouring damages. Finite element simulation is used to reveal the scattering effect of damage location on the guided wave signals. And based on the intrinsic characteristics of guided wave signals, a new damage index - relative amplitude variation coefficient (RAVC) is proposed. Reconstruction algorithm for probabilistic inspection of damage is utilized to obtain damage image. The experimental results show that RAVC can accurately identify the number and location information of single, two and three damages. Compared with the two existing damage indexes, signal difference coefficient and damage factor of power spectral density, RAVC has smaller localization error and has the ability to monitor multiple damages and distinguish neighboring damages, thus improving the accuracy and resolution of multi-damage monitoring in plate structures are improved.
