Abstract: A dynamics model of biased-disk and nonlinear-ball-bearing rotor system is established with tooth coupling misalignment. On account of strong piecewise nonlinearity and fractional exponents in the dynamic equations, the periodic solution of the system is obtained by harmonic balance method with alternating frequency/time domain technique (HB-AFT), which is validated by the classics numerical integration method. Combined with arc-length continuations method and Floquet theory, the superharmonic resonance characteristics of the rotor system are analyzed. Several superharmonic resonance regions are found in the low speed region and the second superharmonic resonance is found in the high speed area, where resonance peak is large that could causing catastrophic impact and damage to the rotor system. The influence of bearing clearance, bearing damping, coupling-misalignment and external loading force (steady load) on the superharmonic resonance curve is discussed, which provides a consultation for the system optimization of control strategies.
