Abstract: In this papery the author reviews briefly the present statue of the technique for designing pipe insulations and proposes new homographs for facilitating the design. The theoretical basis of these nomographs are well discussed. Especial emphasis is given to surface heat transmission. Several numerical examples are included in this paper to illustrate the sound technique for quick determining the proper thickness of pipe insulation for single or multiple insulating layers with the aid of nomographs. It may be expected that these proposed homographs will find their practical uses in actual designing work.
