Abstract: As an effective carrier of basic research achievements of mechanical engineering, 《Journal of Mechanical Engineering》 and 《Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering》(briefly called as JME and CJME, respectively) report achievements of strategic, prospective and innovative National Natural Science Funds. It plays an important guiding role in leading the frontier development of mechanical engineering, encouraging innovation of fundamental theories, promoting construction of discipline, and discovering and cultivating of talents. According to incomplete statistics, about 3 446 papers funded by division of mechanical engineering (briefly called as E05) of National Natural Science Foundation of China (briefly called as NSFC) have been published in the journal during 1987-2012, which is 33.63% of all the papers published. The innovative basic research achievements in the field of mechanical engineering under the funding of NSFC are fully displayed and academic exchanges at home and abroad are strengthened. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the journal, papers published in the journal by NSFC funds of E05 are counted statistically, leading functions of the achievements obtained by funded projects on talent fostering, team building and disciplinary development are analyzed. Representative achievements of four discipline codes are also introduced, in which more projects have been funded. Congratulations on the 60th anniversary of the journal.
