Abstract: Performance and uncertain timeline to retirement affect efficiency and cost of work roll remanufacturing, which is beneficial for economy, environment and society. Investigates performance degradation of high-speed steel work rolls in the simulated rolling process. It presents an indicator set including hardness, wear amount, abrasion resistance, and surface roughness, illustrating harm to the work rolls and rolling. Based on the set and Beta-earth mover’s distance(Beta-EMD), it proposes a comprehensive health indicator(HI) of work roll, illustrating running-in, stable degradation and rapid deterioration. According to detection of Ville turning point, it becomes clear to remanufacture the hot work rolls. According to the Hilbert spectrum of the eddy current signals on the surface of the work rolls and the mapping models of degradation and HI, it is possible to conduct online monitoring of performance degradation of the high-speed steel work rolls, perform quantitative characterization and determine remanufacturing.
