Abstract: The failure modes and damage process of CFRP under bending load are studied to improve the anti-damage performance and guide the design of body structure. The mechanical properties of carbon fiber composite laminates are obtained by means of the experimental method. A tiebreak algorithm-based finite element model is verified by the experiments. The effects of element meshing and the tiebreak contact layers on finite element results are studied. The complex damage of delamination and fiber breakage and the flexural damage propagation are simulated. It is concluded that the calculation accuracy is related to the tiebreak contact layers and the propagation rates of interlaminar crack and intralaminar crack are different and interact with each other.
