Abstract: The widely-used Al2O3-TiC(30%) as sample is utilized to study the remnant surface stress and the thickness of the decaying layer after ceramics is machined with electrical charges. The result of experiments done indicates that the remnant surface stress of ceramic materials after electrical machining is tension stress, and the decaying layer of the surface and the thickness of the decaying layer will increase with the incresase of pulse energy (pulse width, the number of power transistors) whereas decrease with the increase of interval between two pulses. The emulsion used in the process of electrical discharge machining also exercise influence on machining quality.
