Abstract: In this paper the various methods used to inspect the grinding wheel wear are summarized. Empirical formulae for cylindrical grinding force have been reestablished. Based on experimental results we have found that the grinding wheel wear can be estimated by the variation of the ratio of two components of grinding force Fy/Fz. When the wear of the grinding wheel is increased, the force ratio Fy/Fz is also increased. Test for monitoring the grinding wheel wear in cylindrical grinding operation by microprocessor, which calculated the force ratio in real time, gave us good results, these results are encouraging.
