Product Family Design DNA in Industrial Design

Abstract: Proceeding from the industrial design, the concepts of product family and product family DNA are discussed, and the functions of industrial design and engineering design of product family are compared and analyzed. The applications of product family DNA in academia and industries are discussed. The research content and representation structure of product family design DNA are proposed, and its methodology and key technology are indicated. Taking the shape design generating system of telephone product family as an example, the spatial layout relation of telephone shape design and the characteristic transformation of design DNA are researched, thereby providing a certain methodology direction for quick design of products and for knowledge engineering.
