Abstract: An investigation is reported of establishing a power model, which is defined as power on force distribution (PFD), for circular sawing based on the tangential force distribution at the contact zone. The relationships of the cutting depth of single grit to sawing parameters and the tangential force distributing along the contact arc are analyzed, and then the model of PFD is established. With experimental results of sawing power under different sawing parameters, the applicability of PFD and its influences are compared and analyzed by regression method and the use of PFD to predict sawing power is also simulated and experimentally verified. The results indicate that PFD is capable of reflecting the relation of power consumption to sawing parameters under the same sawing peripheral speed because tangential force distributions under a specific sawing peripheral speed are same. Combined with the weak-diagonal line sampling method, PFD is capable of forecasting sawing power with small samples.
